external image Edna_Phythian_Cropped.jpgEdna Phythian serves in the Highland Park Independent School District as the Global Connections and Senior Internship Liaison, where she has worked for three years. Prior to her current duties, Phythian taught Communications Application at Highland Park High School and coached volleyball and basketball for five years. Having worked in the Texas public education system for fifteen years, Phythian says, "I am a proud educator who enjoys working to create authentic learning opportunities for and with students, is driven by 'doing what is best for kids', and believes that personal reflection allows us to evaluate what we have done in order to know and do what is needed." Emily McCarren is the Director of the Wo International Center at Punahou School in Honoulu, HI. She is also a Spanish teacher whose passion is getting her students to connect to the people and issues outside of their classroom. She has also taught Spanish and a professional development course in teaching and learning with social media through the Global Online Academy. Emily is pursuing a doctorate in educational technology at the University of Hawaii, where her principal area of research interest is the experience of care in online learning. Previously, Emily taught Spanish and Biology at the Thacher School, in Ojai California and Spanish and Geometry at Swiss Semester in Zermatt Switzerland. She has an MA in Spanish Literature from St. Louis University, and an Ed.M in Educational Leadership in Independent Schools through the Klingenstein program at Columbia University’s Teachers College.

Susan Adams is the Teacher Librarian at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She believes students benefit from global learning projects in every area of their educational lives and as an important part of personal growth. She is working to create a district-wide class for educators that will inspire them to collaborate globally and expose them to different avenues for participation. She believes it helps us grow to see how education works in other countries and will continue that exploration on a short trip to China in 2014 to visit local schools. Susan loves to travel, is passionate about Spanish, loves to dance, cook, and immerse herself in story and mythology. She has been an Interpreter for the Deaf in Louisiana, a teacher in Colorado and New Mexico, and a public librarian in Seattle.
